There are a variety of services when it comes to long-term care which includes medical and non-medical care to people who either have a chronic illness or disability. Basically long-term care is help the elderly when they are needing assistance that offer support services as activities of daily living like dressing, bathing, using the bathroom and walking. Long-term care can be provided in the home, in the community or within a nursing home. For instance, my grandmother lived in an assisted living facility, to where food was provided for her.
The services they provide are part-time or intermittent nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy and home health aide. ( Medicare, 2006). Home healthcare has a plan that makes small payments to health providers on behalf of the patient, changing the financial risk for healthcare from patients and payers to providers. There are certain circumstances patient have to meet in order to qualify for home health care. Doctors must determine that you may receive medical care in your home.
Certain specialized high-technology home therapies that were once available only in hospitals are now delivered in the home. These specialized services include intravenous antibiotics, oncology therapy, hemodialysis, parenteral and enteral nutrition, and ventilator care. What are the conditions of eligibility for receiving home health services under Medicare? Patients are eligible to receive home health services under Medicare if they meet three basic conditions: 1. The patient is homebound.
The options are adult daycare, continuous care communities, assisted living, nursing homes, and independent living. The adult daycare provider respite care. It means the regular caregiver can use services to take a break from the use of caring. An independent living, a community place where everything is performed for them. In nursing home care there is a medical assistance available on site, daily direct supervision, and personal support, and end of life cases.

A nursing home is a type of residents for the elderly with an illness or disability that limits their communication and ability to live on their own. The Program also supports their carers and families. The HACC Program targets its services to those who have the greatest need for them and/or the greatest capacity to benefit from them. Agencies providing services will assess your needs and provide you with information about your choices.
