Far away but not so far away “I believe that two people are connected at the heart, and it doesn't matter what you do, or who you are or where you live; there are no boundaries or barriers if two people are destined to be together,” stated the actress Julia Roberts. This quote is wonderful for the romantic type of people but when you actually look at the message this quote is giving out, is it realistic? One phrase that stood out in this quote was, “it doesn’t matter what you do, or who you are or where you live.” All of those statements can and most of the time does play a factor in a relationship especially, where you live. This paper will explain how long-distance relationships can be difficult because they strike up many conflicts that most close-distance relationships would never have to face. At the same time, those conflicts can be resolved and both partners could be greatly rewarded even more than those in a short-distance relationship. Defining what a long-distance relationship is can be a difficult task. If one were to look for a definition of a long-distance relationship on Wikipedia they would be given, “a romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and so are unable to meet on a frequent basis.” Those who are not or have never been in a long-distance relationship might think that this is a good definition but it is much more complex than that and does not leave a good remark. Meghan Daum, author of My Misspent Youth also published in the Oprah magazine, stated, “The long-distance relationship is, by definition, doomed.” (Daum,p.1) This is the idea that most people have. That yes, in the beginning a long-distance relationship will work but eventually it will cause too many issues if not approached correctly.
