It has the ability to connect people in a way that some other methods cannot. What is Malnutrition? Though malnutrition is inevitable, many countries are still hit hard by it due to a corrupted government, leaving many parts of the country to have insufficient funding for farming to provide the population with food. Drought is also a huge contribution to malnutrition. Even though some countries are not lacking farm land or water to grow food, malnutrition occurs simply due to the lack of education on nutrition and healthy eating.
Abstract In the US today many Americans consume snack bars or meal replacement bars. Major concerns about these bars are many of them do not have optimal nutrition benefits. In comparison to these bars that are produced by major manufacturers the fiber snack bars that were produced in this experiment aimed to increase fiber and provided better sensory acceptability and overall acceptance. The purpose of this experiment was to use natural ingredients and provide the benefit of a good source of fiber, as well as being gluten free. Introduction With most consumers trying to be more health conscious about their food choices, all natural products are beginning to be found more commonly in grocery stores.
Over the years, the decline of family farms and increase of factory farming has caused harmful effects on human life. Some health problems that effect consumers are respiratory infections, food poisonings, obesity, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and obesity. A lot of individuals are becoming increasingly aware of the health effects of factory farming. Two solutions that would help decrease the harmful effects of factory farming are making the living and manufacturing conditions of the livestock more humane. Another solution to help decrease the harmful effects of factory farming are feeding the livestock a natural diet with limited use of antibiotics and pesticides.
Z Vang Understanding of our Food Some people prefer to have knowledge about their food such as where it is coming from and how the food was prepared. Some people are just ignorant and buy whichever that are cheap or looks the best. Some people do not have time to go deep into knowing their food resulting in unhealthy eating. These days the food industry decorates food and attracts the customers with their products that may not be healthy at all, brainwashing consumers’ mind in making them forget the reality of food. In the essay, “The Pleasures of Eating” by Wendell Berry, he states that the society lacks the knowledge of the making of their food and whether the food is healthy or unhealthy.
English 091 19 March 2013 The Effects of Meal Outsourcing Fast-food is more than a quick-easy meal to be inhaled on the way to somewhere more important. Its negative effects touch one physically, emotionally, and financially. It is true that there are healthy choices offered while eating out, meals can be shared even if not cooked at home, and there are low-cost options on fast food menus. Choosing to not cook and eat a family meal at home has negative health consequences, causes a deterioration of the family relationship, and has a higher cost. Even with healthier choices, one cannot be aware of exactly what is in the food cooked in restaurants, while families can opt out of the drive-through and go in to sit and eat together at fast-food establishments it isn't as intimate and the time is rushed, low-cost options on fast food menus cost more than cooking a family meal at home.
Those without transportation are subjected to shopping at convenience and corner stores. Residents with better access to supermarkets and reliable transportation are less likely to develop obesity and more likely to have a healthy diet. But, where healthy food is more costly, sugars and fats are inexpensive and abundant. Families that are low-income try to stretch the dollar by buying cheap foods that are filling. These foods are of low quality, and have been the leading cause of obesity.
Another reason is we have a choice on what we eat on a daily bases. We need to take responsibility by saying that it is truly our fault. We can prepare a nice meal the day before for the next day, or take the time to make a sandwich which is quick to make, healthier than fast food, cheap, and taste great. Along with all these reasons there are more against the consumer. On the consumers side they have plenty of arguments.
There is no doubt about the benefits of eating plants which promote health. However, back to livestock products. It had become industrial and has been marketed heavily, creating unnatural demand. Therefore, people are affected by this problem. According to the author Jennifer Goldberg who wrote ‘4 reasons why you overeat’ (n.d.), there are four main explanations why we eat too much food, including meat and meat-free products: The first reason is we are in the habit of overeating.
Food additives can affect food positively and negatively. Food additives have become more popular in foods because a large number of societies do not cultivate their own crops. Additives in food are growing in the world because of demanding life styles, no time for “homemade” meals, and just plain and simple laziness. Technology is also a key factor in the production of food additives. Although some people may be against the concept of a food additive, scientists do very thorough testing on each individual additive.
When I found out I had Diabetes, shocked did not begin to describe the way I felt. I knew I had to change my life style and make changes in my life. Many people believe the saying “you are what you eat” is just that a saying, In fact that saying is true. Most people don’t think junk food is unhealthy because they can’t see what the long term effects are from looking at themselves. Although junk food tastes good and is easy to get, the long term health effects outweighs the short term pleasures of eating it.
