Living alone versus living with people Living alone versus living with people is an old problem. In fact, fashion of living alone is spreading around. No matter how this fashion spreads around, the question is: “Is it really profitable for individual?” Living with people is more beneficial for an individual, than living alone for three main reasons; it is better for health, increases happiness and saves the environment. First, people who live alone can experience loneliness and depression. According to World Health Organization is depression common and affecting about 121 million people worldwide. It is the leading cause of disability as measured by health organization Years Lived with Disabilities and the fourth leading contributor to the global burden of disease as measured by health association Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) in 2000. By the year 2020, depression is projected to reach second place of the ranking of DALYs calculated for all ages, both sexes. Today, depression is already the second cause of DALYs in the age category 15-44 years for both sexes combined. It is also profitable for the heart to live with people. “Research in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health suggests that people who live alone double their risk of serious heart disease as those who live with a partner. This includes severe angina and heart attack.” Living with people can also have a positive effect. If someone, for instance, lives with somebody who eats healthily, does not smoke, exercises regularly then there is higher chance he or she will begin to eat healthy, quit smoking and will begin exercising. People living with people are also happier.
