I am always a few tasks ahead of myself in my mind and very often don’t take the time to ask for clarification, or feedback from others to make sure they understand where I am coming from. In the two examples I provided, lack of feedback was definitely a major cause of the misunderstandings. Just a sentence or two in each case from the receiver quantifying the message could have prevented the misunderstandings from occurring. Instead, I was in a hurry to get that easy task off my to-do list and the customer service rep was probably also in a hurry to get on to her next call and her next order. That is the way life seems to be these days in business.
Lack of clarity of purpose can be a risk and a legal issue leading to disputes. The major legal principle here is that, companies should always endeavor to clarify and understand each and every clause of the contract so that they know what they are committing themselves too. It lessens on the misery caused during times of disputes. No matter how easy and simple it may appear during the contract signing process, it becomes totally complicated to understand and agree upon a common interpretation of ambiguous clauses when disputes come up. For instance, in the simulation given, there were ambiguous clauses like “ordinary requirements change” which became a source of conflict because the software user and system requirements changed over time which were had to just incorporate into the contract because of the big effect they had on the project costs and
Habits are not concrete and are dropped and adopted overtime, a continuous learning process. A habit is something that we no longer think about because it is such a regularity almost becoming involuntary behavior. A person may not even realize that they are doing something the same over and over because it is second nature. Sometimes habits can carry over into other things we may not intent, like a person that wakes up early Monday through Friday for work. On Saturday and Sunday the habit will carry over forcing them to wake up and start their day.
Starting an assignment is always the hardest step for me .Like in the very beginning, when you are digging for words to tie your point together; it’s always a struggle building that creative momentum. I believe the point Peter is trying to make is if we can just let go and “be yourself” in a sense, then the words will flow more naturally. When we turn off all the “interruption, changes and hesitations between the consciousness and the page” or let go of self-consciousness, magic happens!
PAD 515 Week 3 Discussion Carver is missing some very basic values and attitudes. He is missing being considerate, respectful, fair, cooperativeness. The changes that Carver needs to make are numerous. The changes will be difficult for him to sustain, as they are not his “style”, but change can be achieved, as with anything, if he works on his values and attitudes. It will more than likely take his subordinates and co-workers even longer to trust that he has changed and that he will adhere to his new found values and attitudes.
We become so used to each other that we don’t realize our little signs of affection or something that signifies we notice someone is there and continues to be an important part of our lives. These habits become difficult to hold to and we just expect someone else to know how we feel without us having to explain it. Yet we also search for these words, these signs that we are important to someone because, as people, we often need reassurance of our purpose in someone’s life. We have become so used to our way of living. We have become so removed from considering how we could affect each other that, as the author says, we “wake to ourselves, exhausted, in the late morning as the wind tears off the haze,” (15-16) but our solitude exhausts us.
Challenges: How they can make you a better person Every day we are faced with challenges we must overcome, some challenges we face are harder than others and we may require help to break through the barriers we face. If we do not succeed with the challenges that are thrown at us, then we do not grow as an individual. With Dr. Malcolm Sayer in the movie Awakenings, he has trouble with people. At first Dr. Sayer cannot face any challenge that requires him to interact with people unless it involves the things he is passionate about, such as work. Dr. Sayer seems to be a lonely man with severe social anxiety, he would much rather be at home reading or studying his plants than interacting with people.
No one notices so the ball just keeps being used and abused. One day the ball goes flat. The ball is expressing that it is tired of being treated like an object. It just wants to feel that it is truly needed. The ball knows that without it, the basketball player can not practice.
Time management is very important in all aspects of life. If you do not have positive in this area, you will fail to accomplish specific goals, and benchmarks. Again, you must hold yourself accountable to be disciplined enough to manage your time wisely. The consideration and respect you show others is a big aspect of this area. People typically demand respect before giving it.
You get rushed and preoccupied, and you stop taking the perspective of the other person, precisely because the two of you are so close.” Being rushed and not going in depth in conversations and only making short statements is a key in miscommunication. “Communication is complex; it requires a number of skills and both ongoing learning and practice to improve our skills. Misunderstandings occur frequently, and they can cause problems in relationships.” (Sole, 2011). Having my husband not understand what I mean by such a short statement is something that I expect since he is my husband. Yet I would not expect someone that isn’t as close to me to immediately grasp what it is I am trying to get across.
