CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW INTRODUCTION Chapter 2 consists of definition of terms, literature review, relevant theory, and conceptual framework. Literature review also consists of discuss and evaluate of research studies which related to research topic. The purpose of the literature review is identifying secondary data from journal and articles which related to this research topic. By this, it can evaluate how does transformational leadership enhances employees’ work engagement. DEFINITION OF TERMS There are plenty of terms are used in this research. First of all, transformational leadership defined as a leadership approach that causes change in individuals and social systems. Next, idealized influence is defined as engendering trust, admiration, loyalty, and respect amongst followers through application of charismatic vision and behaviour. Inspirational motivation is defined as the inspiration given by the leaders to the followers toward new ideas or goals. Intellectual stimulation refers to changes that aimed at self-reflective change of values and beliefs. Individualized consideration means leader treats each follower as a “whole” individual rather than as an employee, and considers the individual’s talents and levels of knowledge to decide what suits him or her to reach higher levels of attainment.
