 What is Literary Analysis? • It is analysis. • It is about literature. • It is an exploration of a piece of literature for a specific purpose. • Sometimes it involves REASERCH of secondary sources  What is an Analysis? • An analysis of a literary work may discuss: • Some element of a single piece of literature, such as: THEME, Characterization, Setting, point of view • Two different pieces of literature, comparing and contrasting, or looking at some particular element (as above) • The literary piece’s connection or comparison to some aspect of your world – social, political, economical, etc.  Analysis Literary Analysis is an exploration of one or more pieces of literature for a specific purpose.  is the practice of looking closely at small parts to see how they affect the whole. Literary analysis focuses on how plot/structure, character, setting, and many other techniques are used by the author to create meaning. Always be sure to discuss the significance of your observations to the main idea about life (the theme)  Literary Analysis is an exploration of one or more pieces of literature for a specific purpose.  There is a process to writing a Literary analysis ( in order) • Idea Generating- Determine your interpretation*, determine some evidence that can be used to support your position. • Thesis sentence- What is your opinion, Thesis sentences have two components: subject and opinion. • Determine Focus Of Analysis- What element will you Analyze, is it the plot of the literature, the characters importance , complexity of character ,or even the Character growth • Order - There are two important parts of the analysis. Interpretation and Evidence. Which order do you want it to go in? Do you want it state the evidence first or interpretation first.
