Before cell phones people went to work then went home. Those days are long gone and when people go home today, every single one of them is a call away from work no matter where they are. Goodman sums up everything about the time we live in with this quote. “Today there are people within reach of a phone every moment of their lives except takeoff, landing, and a long tunnel ride.” Everywhere you look today people have cells phones. People used to have to go to their offices and work.
With the new inventions of texting and other ways of communicating through technology, it seems that more and more people would rather just be a face behind a screen. Moore’s point was that the new ideals of constant texting are killing the communication between people. Texting has become a very important part of most people’s life. Nowadays, a lot of people prefer to do everything through their cell phone, rather than face to face . It makes it easier for people to say things through a text message because they are not in front of the person.
I again checked my email at 11:23, not even one hour later. I am really struggling to be the limit that I set up for myself. My Personal and Global Change Wheel On my personal change wheel, I stated half of the pie chart is about my parents getting a divorce and the other half is that my father never being there to guide me. I will elaborate more about those topics so you have a better understanding about my personal changes in life. I was born in Manila Philippines and moved to America when I was about 3 or 4 years old. Because of my father being an electrical engineer, he was always getting a new assignment or contract so we’d be moving from place to place. I’ve been through 23 states and lived in 11 of them.
One such tool is a Gemba meeting utilizing a SQDIP board. I have been involved in Gemba meetings using similar types of communication boards in the past, but mostly due to lack of support from upper management, maintaining the information would just dissipate after a short period of time. I had never really been engaged and committed to the process to ensure it was successful. Either I felt it was just another responsibility that was put on my already full plate or I failed to see the value that it added to solving the issues we faced on a daily basis on the floor. That was until my new employer, a pump manufacturing company, asked that I hold a Gemba meeting and implement a SQDIP board in my department to communicate the daily issues, come up with action plans to find solutions to fix the problems and ultimately increase productivity.
