Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Gail Winfrey born January 29, 1954 into poverty in the rural Mississippi to a single teenage mother.   Soon after she was born Oprah moved from Mississippi and was raised in the inner city of Milwaukee.   During Oprah childhood, she was faced with a considerable amount of hardships.   She was raped at the age of 9 and after running away at age 13 she became pregnant at the age of 14, she gave birth to a baby boy who died during infancy.   After the death of her baby boy, she was sent to live with the man she calls her father, Vernon Winfrey from Tennessee.   While living in Tennessee and attending high school, she become an honor student and voted most popular.   At the age of 19 while still attending high school, Oprah landed her first job in radio and began co-anchoring a local news channel in the evenings.   From there, she started to head in the direction she is in now, launching her own production company and becoming internationally known by the age of 32.

Oprah while having a rough life as a child learned to read and write at a very young age.   Oprah grandmother Hattie Mae taught her how to read write by the age of 3.   She first started out by reading bible verses; she learned to read them so well that is how she got the nickname “The Preacher”.   Oprah was a very imaginative little girl and never wasted her gift of talent on something that she found to be boring.   As a child Oprah was never allowed to talk, which confused her because she was such a brilliant child that everyone wanted to hear her talk.

Oprah Winfrey’s psychological development was greatly influenced more by the environment she had lived in rather than heredity.   She had a rough life as a child, and she knew at a young age that she did not want to live a life of poverty like her mother had.   She decided that since she had a rough life as a child she was going to work hard to be better and make a name for herself....
