Life Span Development and Personality In selecting a famous individual from the 20th or 21st century to research for this assignment this student chose one of the most infamous people in the 20th century, Adolph Hitler. Because of the terror and horror Adolph Hitler brought into the world arena there have been a number of studies into his psychological profile. This student will attempt to provide her own analysis for this assignment using the guidelines provided. Adolph Hitler was born April 20, 1889 at Braunau Am Inn, a small Austrian village just across from the German Bavaria (The History Pace, 1996). Adolph Hitler is the son of Alois and Klara Hitler. Adolph had an older half brother and sister and four siblings by his mother and father. Only two children from Alois and Klara survived childhood, Adolph and his younger sister Paula. Alois was a stern and strict father. Adolph’s older half-brother, Alois, Jr. stood in between Adolph and Alois, Sr. taking the brunt of Alois, Sr.’s criticism and demands. Alois, Jr. ran away from home when he was 14, leaving Adolph to bear the sternness of his father. Adolph was not only required to focus on his studies as a child he was also required to do chores around the farm. Adolph’s interests lie in art but his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a civil servant. A number of arguments came from this difference in opinion in how Adolph should focus toward his goals as an adult. According to The History Pace (1996), “Hitler later said of himself that he was an argumentative little ring leader who liked to say outside and hang around with ‘husky’ boys. His half-brother Alois later described him as quick to anger and spoiled by his indulgent mother” (Hitler’s Boyhood, para. 12).
