Attitude of Survival Survival is the state of remaining alive especially in difficult circumstances. It is all about enduring extreme hardships and challenges. The actions of surviving are different depending on situations. For instance, surviving does not only mean fighting through a disaster but struggling in a bad workplace is also a part of surviving. However, everyone's objective is the same, which is to survive from one day to the next to fulfill one's goal. Some people give up too easily, when they are starting to feel jaded which brings failure to occur. Attitude is essential in surviving. People need to adjust their attitudes and overcome fears so that they are able to live and not give up. In the novel Life of Pi, Yann Martel proves the tragedies where the Tsimtsum ship sunk, loses his family and stuck on the lifeboat with a tiger influences Pi to have an attitude of survival by adapting to new environment, having self-reliance to survive and focuses on personal belief to sharpens his survival instincts. In the novel Life of Pi, Yann Martel describes how Pi survives by adapting to his new surrounding on the lifeboat. Pi’s father decides to close down Pondicherry zoo and sells the animals off as they are moving to Canada. Pi and his family boards along with some of the animals by a Tsimtsum ship. Unfortunately, during their trip the ship sinks due to a brutal storm. Pi is the only survivor along with a zebra, a hyena, an Orangutan and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. As expected, bloodshed happens between the animals on the lifeboat. Pi and Richard Parker are the remaining survivor. In order for Pi to protect himself and survive, he trains Richard Parker during his free time by taming Richard Parker using a whistle and a turtle shell as a shield to protect himself because Pi knows how dangerous and violent a tiger can be when they are hungry or
