Professor Jim LaBate Composition I, Section 601 22 June 2010 Life is Beautiful A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. ~Herm Albright, quoted in Reader's Digest, June 1995(Quotations about Attitude). There are lots of movies which are widely known by depicting miserable life the Jewish suffered in Nazi concentration camp during the world war II, for example, Schindler`s List, Jakob the Liar. While in another movie Life is Beautiful , people found something different, kind of beauty appears in the bloody concentration camp. Its optimistic and humorous expression makes the movie so special which leads people to think about another question, that is how do optimistic attitudes affect one’s life. This is obviously not a tragedy movie, from the beginning the lead Guido come on with a series of funny activities. As the story expanded, Guido always showed his whimsical, romantic comedy, which lead his life full of hope. Positive psychology studies indicate a positive attitude, along with an optimistic outlook and positive thinking can bring better health and greater happiness (Lopper Jerry). As is known to all, there also exist people who have a pessimistic outlook and negative thinking in the real life. When people face a bad situation or has pressure about life, they will show a pessimistic emotion, for example, it is easy to find a report about suicide when people get fired or go bankrupt, those case explains how pessimistic attitude affect one’s life directly. Some people see the glass as half empty. Others see it as half full. But is it really as simple as that? Is it possible to be a bit of both? What are the advantages and disadvantages to both?
