“Life is the sum of your choices.” That quote by Albert Camus, a Nobel Prize-winning novelist, is vividly brought to life in the story of one particular woman I know. I would like to share with you someone in my life who has influenced me greatly, my mentor Ma’am Emma Sebastian. She is a self-sacrificing woman, who is authentic in all of his dealings with people, work and family. However, in keeping with his authenticity, she tends to be workaholic and impulsive. I could vividly recall the time when she was newly operated and she went on travel despite all the risks confronting her health. Everyone from our office asked her, “Are you sure you are fit to travel.” Her petite and beautiful smile spoke of same qualities as she stayed positive to fulfil her mission on such travel and constantly affirmed, “yes, I can . . . My doctor said I can go on travel”. It was a lucid indication of her serious dedication and commitment to work. In my mind I said, yes she can do it for so long as she has eaten eight to ten eggs a day... the adequate amount of albumin will replenish and nourish her physical body and stay her healthy. I wish and am envious that I may eat the same number of eggs a day to be vigorous, as well. Oh My God! She came home, as always during her past travels, with a thoughtful attitude, bringing presents to each one of us. Another striking anecdote I could recount about her is the record keeping skills. I was new then in the Division office when I always regard her as my senior supervisor. She was the first person who welcomed me with all her hospitable manners. Before I was seated in the office, I consulted her of how to kick off all the responsibilities cuddled unto me as a supervisor. She was on leave that time, but like a younger sis, she allowed me to barrow her key in her locker for me to access all her files which served as my guide to undergo such
