Dear roommate, My name is Carolina Melo, but I like my friends to call me Carol. I am from Fortaleza, Brazil and I live with my mom and my two little dogs. My mom is a lawyer and she works in my family's company. I have an older sister and an older brother. My sister is married and has two children, Matheus and Maria Beatriz; she lives with her family in Fortaleza and works as a lawyer. My brother, Abiano, graduated from high school in the United States and is now working and going to college in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When I was 10 years old, I skipped a year of school because my grades were very good and my teachers and my family felt I was able to go to the next grade. I went to a private school in Brazil, where the students needed to wear uniforms and stay in one classroom while the teachers came to us. When I was 12 years old, I decided to be an aerospace engineer. At first I thought I would go to a famous college in Brazil called Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), but now I realize that colleges in the United States can offer me a better education. In 2011, I decided to go to the United States as an exchange student and graduate from high school. My brother went to a family in Vermont as an exchange student in 2008, so I decided to stay with the same family. While I was in Vermont, I learned how to speak English fluently and to be more independent. The whole experience taught me about the American culture, helped me improve my social skills and made me realize just how much I appreciate my origins. In my spare time I like to go shopping, watch movies, read books and communicate with my friends and family on the computer. I also like to study languages.
