They provide protection, companionship and many services that make their lives much easier. Unfortunately, even these well- intended actions by pit bulls are under fire. For instance, Vietnam veteran Allen Grider resided in Aurora, Colorado with his service dog, an American Pit Bull Terrier named Precious. Because of Aurora’s breed specific legislation on pit bulls, Precious was taken away from Mr. Grider, leaving him with no one to help him with his daily needs. Mr. Grider filed a lawsuit against the city of Aurora, his case was tried, and he won.
One of his main examples is Koko the gorilla. Koko is a gorilla who was taught to communicate using sign language. “Equally impressive is Koko, the 300-pound gorilla at the Gorilla Foundation in Northern California, who was taught sign language and has mastered more than 1,000 signs and understands several thousand English words. On human IQ tests, she scores between 70 and 95.” (Rifkin 29). Rifkin fails to realize that Koko was a special case and doesn’t represent the entire gorilla population.
What role did rats play in the Black Plague? 3. If you have several rats living at your house, how would you get rid of them (base your answer off what you just learned)? 4. Explain what rats eat.
John B. Watson and Rosalie Rayner – Little Albert Experiment The aim of the experiment was to investigate whether fear can be acquired through classical conditioning on human beings. Before conditioning, pre-testing was done to see if Albert was capable of producing a fear response. The checked if he was afraid of different materials, such as: a white rat, a rabbit, a dog, a monkey, masks with and without hair, cotton wool, burning newspapers, etc but he demonstrated no fear. They found that little Albert showed fear when exposed to loud noises. They started conditioning by showing Albert a white rat.
I believe that Al Knight's argument is much more effective than the Irate Dog Owner. Knight's reason is not only more solid but is also backed up with a lot of evidence to conclude that the law for Colorado pickup owners benefits their dogs. Unlike Knight the Irate Dog Owner who expresses in his letter that simply for his own personal reasons he is against the law. So I conclude that Knight's article “Perhaps We Should Move to Save Dogs From Their Owners” proves to be the more effective argument of the
Key Points: a. Experimental animals are very safe and secure. b. Experimental animals’ benefits are countless c. Use of experimental animals is more humane than use of experimental humans 5. The writer addresses his opponents’ arguments by noting their irrelevance, untruthfulness, and incompetence.
Grace Cueva Mr.King ERWC October 29, 2014 Los Angeles Times 551 Burning Tree Rd. Fullerton, CA Dear Editor, Jeremy Rifkin declared in his article,” A Change of Heart About Animals” Los Angeles Times, September 1, 2003 that animals are capable of emotions just like any human being is, and is requesting that all people treat animals with a sense of empathy to animals just like you would to any other human being. His ideas are a bit too farfetched and absurd and if you really examine the idea itself it is really badly supported. This stems from the fact that one of the topics that differentiate human beings from animals is their ability to feel regarding the lives of creatures outside of their own kind. Rifkin tries to persuade us by telling us that animals understand and experience the whole idea of mortality by using observation for example,”Elephants will often stand next to their kin for days, occasionally touching their bodies with their trunks.”(Rifkin, 11) I think that just because animals can feel grief does not mean that we should treat them how we treat other humans.
Numerous of people look at animal research as dollar signs instead of realizing the heartache that is involved. Due to the millions of dollars made each year by companies it will be hard to end this devastation; but we must never give up. By taking actions and realizing that humans have gone too far with such a selfishness act is the first step to making it a safer world for animals. Every moment spent trying to end this cause is another step closer to saving the precious gift everyone is granted; the beauty of
Coyotes are cunning animals that can live in every habitat in Canada. In fact, their intuition is so great that they can adapt to their environment and balance the pack’s population cleverly; they have more chance of surviving when they are in danger. So there are flaws in this plan; this plan has been done in 1980s with unsatisfying result. Also, it wouldn’t make coyotes fear humans; their numbers would increase. Since most coyotes do not attack humans, the government would need to warn and educate people about animal attacks and make them aware; that would be the best
The concept of the reintroduction of the grey wolf in the wild continues to be surrounded with controversies. The hope is that the research and studies conducted by various institutions will result in ways to better techniques that would lead to a successful reintroduction of wolves as seen in some places around the world. The success of the reintroduction of wolves in the Yellowstone and Idaho area in 1995 is an indication that this project can be replicated in the future. The controversy over how to reintroduce wolves into the wild continues but the federal government as well as the state governments are working together to find solutions to benefit all
