Thematic Study: Reading Log Theme: Over Coming obstacles in relationships TEXT TYPE: Song TITLE: The Only Exception AUTHOR/DIRECTOR/SINGER: Paramore PUBLICATION DETAILS: Officially released April 19 2010 by Fuelled By Ramen How the text relates to my theme: The Only Exception is an Alternative Rock song written by Hayley Williams and Josh Farro. The Only Exception is about Hayley’s parents divorce; “when I was younger I saw my daddy cry and curse at the wind” “And my momma swore that she would never let her self forget” and how she would never let what happened to her parents happen to her “and that was the day that I promised I’d never sing of love, if it does not exist.” She made herself believe that it was safer if she didn’t fall for anyone and stayed away from people “and I’ve always lived like this, keeping a comfortable distance” then she ends up falling for a guy and changes her beliefs “And up until now I had sworn to myself that I’m content, with loneliness, because none of it was ever worth the risk” She knows what will end up happening if she falls; that her heart will end up broken and what happened to her Parents will end up happening to her “I’ve got a tight grip on reality” “I know your leaving in the morning when you wake up” but she doesn’t want the memory to fade “But leave me with some kind of proof its not a dream” She repeats the line “you are the only exception” throughout the song to show that even though she vowed that she would never love someone entirely and that she would never fall for someone. This guy was an exception because she felt that if she loved someone she can still be safe and that and she wouldn’t be “content with loneliness” when she was with him. Judith didn’t attract global attention until she sang the lead on the song “Heal the World” at Michael Jackson’s memorial in 2009. ”Backup singers have no power in the industry, nobody is going to make money off backup singers and therefore nobody has any interest in helping make a backup singer’s documentary,” said director Morgan Neville as he discussed the making of 20 Feet From Stardom, but ultimately Morgan used guilt for perfecting his argument, “to give back to these singers and enriching their lives” that finally made a certain number of people jump onboard to make 20 Feet From Stardom. Split Horn-Shamanism In 19th century the Hmong had no written language. A high value was and still is placed on the oral tradition. Hmong folktales are used not only to instruct and entertain, but to convey the values and beliefs of the community, as well as to explain the world's mysteries, such as "The Origin of the Shaman" and "Why Animals Cannot Talk”. Split of Horns focuses on Paja, a shaman whose spiritual leadership plays a vital role in Appleton's Hmong community. Paja Thao and his family from the mountains of Laos during the Vietnam War moved to the heartland of America, this film shows of his shaman's struggles to maintain his ancient traditions as his children embrace American culture and do not carry their fathers trait of becoming a shaman.
Slavery & Abolition This week, we are revisiting our brothers and sisters in the South. It’s been quite a while since we submerged ourselves in the south and took a look around. What has changed? What’s going on down there? Certainly it’s safe to assume that the notions of Republican Motherhood and the Cult of True Womanhood were not developing in the South.
I do it to connect with God with my soul and mind. It cleanses them of the burdens of the week and gives me a sense of peace and calming. The reason why I am taking classes is further my education in the hopes of pursuing and creating a future career for myself not just having a job. I spend time with my family because they give me sense of happiness, love, warmth, and kindness to my heart. I love to spend time with my family.
