Brutus says in his essay that this power given to the federal government will take away all of the state government’s power to collect taxes and that the constitutions and treaties of the states will become null. Hamilton denies this by explaining that the structure of the proposed federal government will preserve the state constitutions. What Hamilton says about this seems to go against Article 6 of the Constitution, which says that the law of the Constitution will be supreme over the states. Brutus’ Essay V seems to say the same thing over and over again. Many of the things that he lists as problems to the nation are things that we love about our government today.
One idea was to have him selected by the congress, this idea was thrown out because people thought that it would be used to serve the congresses purpose. The second option was to have the state legislatures decide who became president this idea was thrown out for the same reason. Eventually they decided that the president would be chosen by a popular vote. The archaic nature of this comes from the similarities to the primitive roman system (which quincedently is the same
The democratic system found in the United States is heavily slanted to the majority; their convictions are often implemented in legislation and used as the standard by which things are measured. Henry David Thoreau argues in “Civil Disobedience” that majorities are not right simply by virtue of being the majority. Thoreau clearly favors the individual and his convictions when he claims that “if a plant cannot live according to its nature, it dies; and so a man” (Thoreau). As Thoreau’s claims idealize the individual they also diminish the role of the government. Similar progressions can be found in Antigone, penned by Sophocles centuries earlier.
are having their constitutional rights being kept from them which is a serious violation of the inalienable rights guaranteed to every American citizen. With the right to vote being the most important right in a free country, having the right taken away due to the complications of bureaucracy and the polarization of our political parties should make any responsible citizen confused or disgusted. Washington D.C. should be granted statehood because it passes all the requirements for it besides approval from corrupt and broken legislative body. However, there is hope, since we are a democracy, know your next congressman’s stance on this debate and maybe we can restore the American way of life to 600,000 silenced citizens. Conflict Theory and the Government Shutdown Eugene Peter Lewis, Jr. SOCI 200- D01 LUO Mrs. Susan Deneen November 24, 2013 One of the biggest news stories of 2013 as we near its close is the shutdown of the United States government. The legislative branch of the government has a task enumerated by the Constitution- agree on spending so that the government may be funded. When this does not happen, most of the rudimentary processes of the government fail to function. The Republican members of the House of Representatives desired to fund the government with the obvious exemption of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The Democrats in the United States Senate insisted on funding the entire federal government, including
So the tug-of-war between the president and Congress is a special part (271). The framers had never envisioned that the presidency of the United States of America would become such a democratic office. They were afraid of tyranny and the pressure of the public opinion and made the Electoral College in a way that its members would be chosen in a manner decided by the state legislatures (270). They realized that the instead of letting the people elect the members, the state legislatures would elect the members by themselves. The electors from the states would than elect the country’s president from the leading citizens.
The New World Times How will the constitution affect the presidential elections? In terms of this, the constitution will affect the elections because the federalists and the anti-federalists will oppose to vote for the right representative but because that the representative comes from that class…… the classes will only vote for their representative. This attempt will trouble the nation with election issues and pretty soon… the constitution will be abandoned set America for a monarchy. Editor’s opinion In my opinion the U.S constitution provided more detailed political laws that was able to help out the economy itself to prevent form having a dictatorship. However the constitution first needed to be discussed before being passed out
These two projects became the key issues of the elections. The main difference between them was that in Roosevelt’s the government should control the bad trust, leaving the good one alone and free to operate while Wilson’s objective was to break up all trust and basically shun social-welfare proposals. Wilson won manly because the Republican party devided, because of this he’s also called a Minority President. During his ministry he tackled the “triple wall of privilege”: the tariff, the banks and the trusts. This benefited the American public.
I feel that if we added a third party we would increase these numbers, that if the people felt that they were actually being heard and that their votes mattered, then there would be more citizens actively participating their right to vote. When a president comes into office based on the electoral votes, and not on majority it taints that person and creates a certain bitterness throughout the entire country. If we did indeed create a third party we would have to completely change the way that we vote, and possibly remove the Electoral College. This suggestion alone causes people to cringe but when people were asked if they wanted a third party candidate and a whopping 46% said yes.
In agreement, I believe all shall follow for strictly guidelines and restrictions, not to be precise within each Amendment, not one should uphold detail. The unwritten Constitution refers to traditions that have become part of our political system. Although George Washington warned us against Political Parties, they nominate candidates for office. Political Parties are not written into The Constitution, yet the people of the United States are left to vote and decide who the winner of the elections will be, and who will take the position as the next President of the United States. Yet, another reason why we, as a nation, alter the Constitution in our own ways, still allowing each part as an indication of mandate.
