SWAT team members' duties include: performing hostage rescues and counter-terrorism operations; serving high risk arrest and search warrants; subduing barricaded suspects; and engaging heavily-armed criminals. SWAT teams are often equipped with specialized firearms including submachine guns, assault rifles, breaching shotguns, riot control agents, stun grenades, and sniper rifles. They have specialized equipment including heavy body armor, ballistic shields, entry tools, armored vehicles, advanced night vision optics, and motion detectors for covertly determining the positions of hostages or hostage takers inside enclosed structures. Special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams are generally called in for law enforcement situations where military-type training is needed. This would usually include situations where police know in advance that there is a great likelihood of heavy gun violence erupting.
He does not present enough proof to believe that less enforcement will in fact lower violence in gangs. Gangs are a complex and fairly intelligent corporation that will try and stop at nothing to get what they want with any means possible. Drugs do have a major role in gang violence, like Gardner says, but stopping the drug trade in my eyes won’t in fact end their
Another way of reducing the potential harm to intravenous drug users is to provide medically controlled drugs as a substitute for street drugs. Drugs such as methadone are less harmful than street heroin, partly because they are free from impurities. An issue with the public health interventions I have discussed is that it may be too early to measure. It is still too early to see the full effect of the smoking ban as it was only introduced fairly recently, which could explain why there have been no significant changes in the number of smokers following the ban. As well as this, harm minimisation programmes are controversial because they appear to condone
Ethical formalism that is a deontological system because its determinant is motive or intent and not consequence. This is the system that the cops chose because they believed their motive was in fact good and they weren’t worried about getting caught. All the police officers where worried about in this situation was getting drugs off the street and taking off some of the pressure they were being put under by society. I believe that if Detective Griffiths would have not gotten shot and killed and this was a normal raid and drug but this situation never blows up like it did. It was a very unfortunate accident where everything that could go wrong went wrong and it ended up with a dead officer and a criminal that got to walk away with no punishment at all.
Less than lethal weapens What are the two major less than lethal weapons developed for law enforcement? Two major less then lethal weapons developed for law enforcement would be Tasers and Aerosol Chemical Agents. How have these weapons helped law enforcement and reduce injury? If I was a police officer I think that I would rather use a taser on someone then a gun. With a gun you probably have more of a chance of hurting and killing someone then what you do if you were to use a taser.
Gun accidents have been declining as Wilson writes, “the rate of fatal gun accidents has been declining while the level of gun ownership has been rising” (Barnet and Bedau 126). Fewer than 2 percent of gun fatalities are caused by someone mistaking the victim for an intruder. The facts do not support the self-injury argument. Gun control advocates need to understand that they should use correct facts in their arguments if the hope to maintain credibility. People against gun control that want tougher laws on gun related violence will most likely see those added laws overlooked because the tougher laws will most likely be an add-on to current laws.
One effect of this is an inaccurate ratio relating to self-defense. In the 43-1 statistic all but six of the deaths in their ratio were due to suicide. Including deaths due to suicide to the ratio is misleading in that the ways in which suicide may be accomplished without the use of firearms by far outweigh the presumption that these lives would have been saved had these firearms not been available to these people. In relation to the international comparison illustrated in the 43-1 statistic the authors do not account for the unfairness of the comparison based on the contrast of other countries due to the fact that consistent laws govern these nations . In the United States there are
With an air taser, you can disable an attacker from up to 10 feet away. This means that you do not have to be close enough to touch the attacker, as required with a stun gun. Tasers are commonly used by the police force, and much research has been completed on their efficiency. They are an effective means of self-defense, especially when used against someone who threatens use of a knife or blunt weapon, as you are able to maintain a safe distance from them. Some people do not like the idea of using air tasers because they deliberately cause pain to the attacker.
The good, law abiding citizen doesn't have drugs, but bad citizens still do. So if we take guns away from the public the good citizens won't have guns, but the bad citizens, the criminals will still have them. This will make it easier for the criminals to commit crimes. When these criminals are committing crimes the good citizens won't be able to defend themselves. This would give an advantage to the criminal since he's the only one with a firearm.
The application of stricter gun control laws will in fact hinder law enforcement agencies across America. During the Brady Band law enforcement agencies, although approved, had complications getting what is considered to be an assault rifle for official duties. Many law enforcement agencies had to settle for a less superior weapon than the combatant they faced. This event is a far too common on street patrol across America. When our trust is put into someone else’s hands do you want these everyday hero’s to be out gunned by superior weaponry.
