Cymbopogon Citrullus LEAF EXTRACT AS AN ALTERNATIVE
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The mosquitoes are a family of small, midge-like flies: culicidae. Although a few species are harmless or even useful to humanity, most are a nuisance because they consume blood from living vertebrates, including humans. Mosquitoes can act as a vector for many diseases causing viruses and parasites. Mosquitoes -borne diseases include yellow fever, dengue fever, malaria, lymphatic filariasis, elephantiasis, tularemia, and others. These harmful mosquitoes can be found in our place which has stagnant water, in garbage disposal, flower pots and discarded containers.
We can control and resolve these problems by means of implementing a program that can help us to prevent ourselves from different type of diseases came from harmful mosquitoes. And instead of buying an expensive mosquito repellent, we need to think and develop alternative and inexpensive type of repellent that are surely effective and not harmful to our health.
Lemongrass as a mosquito repellent is one way of preventing ourselves from mosquito. And according to some researches it is the best plant to keep away ourselves from mosquitoes, because it has a fresh scent that keep away mosquitoes that is pleasant to humans. Lemongrass are widely used for medicinal and food processing purpose.
Some people usually plant lemongrass in the surrounding to drive away mosquitoes.
The result of this study will help us to keep away mosquitoes and prevent ourselves from diseases, if proven to be effective.
This project aims to:
1. find out if cymbopogon citrullus can repel mosquitoes;
2. to make a surely effective mosquito repellent that is inexpensive.
