Leisure pursuit means occupation or activity that is freely chosen. It actually means hobby or Leisure activity. A hobby is work which we do casually during leisure. It is an activity to overcome boredom. It gives relaxation and recreation first to the mind and then to the body. It has no profit or income motive. It is an act done to derive pleasure. A habit and a hobby do not mean the same. Hobbies are based on one’s aptitude and interest. In day to day work some tax their minds and others burden their bodies. Working a few hours continuously tires a man and fatigue sets in. he requires a break or a change of work. Leisure helps in relaxation and hobbies add recreation and pleasure to it. Hobbies are of different kinds. Some are indoor activities and the others are outdoor activities. Some help in relaxing the mind and some the body and some others both mind and body. Collecting stamps, coins, pictures and the like, listening to music, and reading a book can be called indoor hobbies. Drawing, painting, photography, writing poetry and the like may be called both indoor and outdoor hobbies. Gardening, hunting, fishing, swimming, bird watching, and star gazing are all outdoor hobbies. Each Individual selects his hobby based on his interest and taste. Relaxation and pleasure are the principles that guide the selection. Hobbies not only delight, but also educate. Hobbies develop curiosity. Collection of stamps and coins of various countries, no doubt, give pleasure. At the same time, they help one to know the geography, the history and the culture of the countries concerned. Listening to music soothes the mind and pleasure takes the place of pain. Reading a book gives scope to see life in its various facets and increases knowledge. Writing poetry is creative. Hunting and fishing are playful and at the same time adventurous. Gardening is the best of all outdoor
