Long term use of controlled narcotics to control chronic pain is very addicting, and harmful to the body and vital organs. Marijuana is less dangerous than the medications physicians prescribe and it has been proven to be efficient as a pain killer. Legalizing marijuana will be a medical advantage for many who are currently using narcotic medications to improve chronic pain. Legalizing marijuana will benefit the qualifying candidates by relieving chronic pain while it doesn’t harm the body as narcotic medications do. Today many American’s use narcotics to treat chronic pain, with long term use of narcotics the body builds tolerance to the medication and then a stronger dose is needed to reach therapeutic effect. People do not realize that the long term use of narcotic medication brings many health issues such as, constipation, liver disease, and kidney failure and also makes the person addicted. Narcotics used to treat chronic pain are often misused to get the “high” sensation the codeine in the medication contains. Many people with prescribed narcotics take more than they should to control pain and still claim to find little relief from the pills; instead they claim to feel like they are high. Prescription drugs kill about 100,000 people in the world each year. "There are no deaths from cannabis use. Anywhere. You can't find one," said Dr. Lester Grinspoon, professor emeritus at Harvard Medical School. Marijuana can help treat health conditions such as epilepsy. “A study performed by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University discovered that ingredients found in natural marijuana play a critical role in controlling spontaneous seizures in epilepsy.” Dr. Robert J.
