Evaluate the effectiveness of legal and non-legal responses to the issue. Issue: Child soldiers One of the contempary human rights issues that is is cuasing controversial issues across the world is Child Soldiers. A child soldier is fundemenatlly known as a human being under the age of 18 recruited by an army of somply particpating in a armed conflict. In certain societies, children are considered adults from the age of 14 or 15. A young person of 15 who joins an armed group can therefore be considered as a adualt soldier according to his own culture. Current internatioinal law in force fixes 15 years as the mimimus age for recruitmnet in the army of participation in conflicts. However the International Convention on the Rights of the Child fixes 18 as the age of adualthood, thus the reason why the use of child soldiers is unjust and also goes against the Univeral RIghts Of Deceloration Of Human Rights (UDHR) seen in Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of punishment. And Article 26: Everyone has the right to education. As the children are tortured, beat, and threatened to join the army, the militias around the world invovling children in such atrocities have violated Article 5. Also, because the children are being driven from schooling where children should be (and many want to be there), Article 26 has been violated. Through out the essay we will see the effectiveness of legal and non legal responses to the issue of child soldiers. There have been many ways the international community has responded both legally and non legally to try and regulate the use of child soldiers.
