Thrust into the real world with our confidence almost permanently shattered, we are expected to be successful and important when prior to that we were always told the opposite. Bullying harms us not only in our youth, but for the rest of our lives. In the poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan, we hear the story of children who have faced the effects of being bullied. A little girl for something as foolish as a birthmark on her face and a boy for thinking pork chops and karate chops were the same. Age did not change the words that cut through that poor little girl.
Making it on your own At times people tend to work well while they are under pressure. To others they simply must be under pressure to get work done and give their full effort. In her article In Praise of the F Word, Mary Sherry argues “Flunking as a regular policy has just as much merit today as it did two generations ago. We must review the threat of flunking and see it as it really is- a positive teaching too.” By making it clear to students that flunking can definitely be a result of them not putting in the time and effort in assuring they pass their class will make them more determined to learn and earn their good grades, it will also help stop those students who choose not to even try in their classes. I made a mistake and from this tragic accident it has made me a better and stronger person, we all make mistakes, and we all learn from them and have to suffer the consequences. All though I am a man on the outside I am also a trapped teenager with thoughts and feelings that I cannot erase for the rest of my life. I am writing, explaining that I am trying to understand your pain and so that your family understands my pain. I mean, sure, grades are very motivational, but they are also very harming. Countless suicides are caused by grades and pressure, and I think it just really isn’t necessary to put a student on the spot like that. Let’s say a student makes straight A’s. That’s great in most cases, but does it really self-motivate the student into learning more, or does it give them a little lee-way to slack off and maybe not study as much? Or let’s say that a student gets straight C’s.
I strived to succeed, so when I didn’t do my best I would get very upset with myself and try harder until I was the best. I hate the feeling of failure especially when I knew that I had tried my very hardest. My parents always told me try your hardest or don’t try at all, so anytime I lost at something I felt like I was letting them down. Like I said before the best feeling in the world is when your parents show pride in you, well how awesome that feels is coinciding with how horrible it feels when they are upset with me. Through the years I have learned what I am good at and what I don’t excel in.

Although Rodriguez has had much success as a student and as a writer, he always felt misplaced among is peers. I am writing my research paper to show that the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act is a failure. The NCLB act was brought forth in 2001 by the George W. Bush administration in an effort to assess basic skills and raise national test scores. In this essay I will provide evidence that NCLB is in fact making it harder for children to succeed. Although NCLB has raised test scores, it requires teachers to “teach to the test,” as opposed to teaching children what they actually need to know to succeed, and leaves children unprepared for further education. NCLB also takes the focus off of the arts and puts it all on subjects that are tested by the state.
Critical Lens Essay In life there are many people who are hero’s .They aren’t born hero’s, but learn through lessons of life from various circumstances. Norman Mailer once said “For what does it mean to be a hero? It requires you to be prepared to deal with forces larger than yourself.” This quotation means that to be a hero you have to put your life on the line to help others. I agree with this quotation, as it holds true in life and in literature. Characters from “Hero of the Day”, written by Matt Gentry, teaches readers that everyone is not a hero at first but when something happens the heroism come out of a person.
