Learning English: a Process for New Opportunities

When people move to a foreign country, it is important to be able to communicate in the primary language for example English in United States or Portuguese in Brazil; consequently, Speaking is what we usually learn to do first because of the constant interaction and necessity of communicating with other people but since there is no foundation of the language we tend to express or speak using grammatical rules of our primary language, for instance English and Spanish differs in the distinction between direct and indirect objects “Le pidieron su direccion” (They asked him for his address), in this example “le” is an indirect object but in English “him” is a direct object because he was the one who was asked. This type of rules creates confusion to non-native speakers and that’s why mastering language skills is important to be able to communicate properly; furthermore, the steps people should take to learn English are speaking a little every day, working on their pronunciation, expanding their vocabulary, attending to English classes, using media and being confident of themselves. Speaking a little every time there is an opportunity is the key to be able to communicate and build confidence for this part of the process people shouldn’t worry about making mistakes or their accent and probably don’t be understand by other people; in fact, at the begging it will be hard for listeners to understand what is the person trying to say but pronouncing a few word correctly will help them getting the idea; therefore, by practicing little by little the person will start building phrases and probably sooner than later they will be able to maintain a conversation so remember that it takes time, concentration and effort to conquer this process which is not easy but also not impossible.
