Learning a Second Language

Language is a mean of communication that we use. We learn a language just like a child learns, by mimicking and imitating the language of his parents or the people surrounding him. Learning a second language shares the same process. In languages, being a native speaker means that it’s your first language that you were speaking since earliest childhood. A person would acquire a second language by learning it, just like learning the first language. English is the second language of most of the world’s countries. A lot of people would choose to learn English in a country where it’s their first language, such as US and England. In US for example students are faced with a problem, native or non-native English-speaking teacher. Non-native English-speaking teachers (NNEST) have a lot of advantages over native English-peaking teachers (NEST). The first advantage is that NNEST share the same background with the students; English isn’t their first language. The second one is that NNEST can foresee students problems better than a NEST. Some people might argue that a NNEST language is not as good as a NEST since it’s not their first language, however a persons excellency in a language cant be measured by knowing whether its his first or second language. First of all, NNEST share the same background with the students, both of them English isn’t their first language. Knowing that English isn’t the teachers first language will break that barrier between the students and the teacher. Psychologically the teacher will not intimidate the student by creating any type of superiority, which will help in enhancing the education process. Secondly, NNEST can foresee better than a NEST. NNEST can relate to the problems that their students face because the teacher might have faced them in learning English as a second language, while a NEST can’t relate to their problems since English
