Leading Groups Challenges Paper AJS/512 August 25, 2014 Kevin Moore Leading Groups Challenges Paper In the criminal justice system there are numerous challenges that leaders of criminal justice organizations definitely have to face daily. These challenges are frequently changing to fit the mandates inside and outside of the criminal justice system. The demands that are already in place make for more challenges to a stressed criminal justice system. The criminal justice organizations have to sometimes make drastic changes in order to stay with updated changes in the world today and what may come up in the future. The capability of leading groups to be unbiased and still pursue the law and not individuals or specific organizations is a challenge because dominant officials in commanding government positions directly influence these types of cases. One example, is after the attacks on September 11, there was an instant public pressure to abolish terrorism. While an attempt to abolish terrorism, the Islamic followers were placed under surveillance, regardless of whether or not they were actually terrorists. We must communicate with our supervisors, our coworkers, and customers. One area of criminal justice that requires strong communication skills is law enforcement. Communication is crucial to the success of preventing crime, keeping society safe, and catching those who do not abide by the law. A conflict occurs when team members disagree on something. Conflicts happen quite often; this could be the result of one or more team members trying to have the final word on everything. Conflicts are inevitable in our future careers; everyone is not going to agree when working together. Conflict can be the result of other team members not agreeing with an opinion as well as it could be the result of stress. Working in the criminal justice field we will experience conflict, but it is how we handle conflict that is important. If there is not a solution to the problem, it is important to ask a third party to step in as a neutral factor to give their opinion and help resolve
