Leadership Leadership and management are commonly confused terms that are too often used interchangeably. According to "What Is The Difference Between Management And Leadership?" (2014), “Leadership and management must go hand in hand. They are not the same thing. But they are necessarily linked, and complementary. Any effort to separate the two is likely to cause more problems than it solves.” What are your personal views of leadership? I look at leadership as something that has the ability to be either positive or negative, based on how effective of a leader an individual is and how they are using their leadership role to affect others. As a leader taking initiative is crucial. Good leadership is where a leader treats team members with respect, and treat them as if they are important and valuable to the team. This form of leadership always leads to positive outcomes. If the goals of the tasks to be sachieved is well laid out and all members agree to the basic ground rules, it makes it easier for the leader to guide the group. Every member is allowed to make their suggestions, complaints, and views on work. In the case where the goal is not clear or the leadership is weak it could lead to disconnect amongst the leader and team members. This is reflects bad leadership. Signs of bad leadership qualities are failing to listen and insisting their way is the only way, treating team members with disregard and disrespect and not being able to enlist team members to successfully complete task. How does leadership differ from management? Professor Warren G. Bennis says “Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right.” Though management and leadership are not the same they are both critically important to each other.
