Leadership Bass’ theory of leadership states that there are three basic ways to explain how people become leaders (Bass, 1990). The theories he mention are the trait theory, this theory lead people naturally into leadership roles. The other theory he refer to is the great event theory, in this theory brings out extraordinary leadership qualities in an ordinary person and the last theory is the transformational theory, accordingly with bass’ this is the most widely accepted theory and the premise on which this guide is based. The basis of good leadership is honorable character and selfless service to your organization. In your employee’s eyes, the leadership you portray is everything you do that effects the organization’s objectives and their well-being. What makes a person want to follow a leader? People want to be guided by those they respect and who have a clear sense of direction. In order for a leader succeeds they must gain respect, and they must be ethical. Trust and confidence is the single most reliable predictor of an employee satisfaction in an organization. Leadership is presenting knowledge about your job and having a solid familiarity of your employees’ tasks. As a leader you must know how to make sound and timely decisions, and being a good role model. They must not only hear what they are expected to do, but also see (Mahatma Gandhi). You as a leader have to ensure that tasks are understood, supervised, and accomplished. The key to succeed as a leader is a strong communication with your employees. Be personable, and show you care about your employees as a person. One of the most effective ways to have people wants to follow you as a leader is to make them feel like you truly care about them.
