The basis of good leadership is honourable character and selfless service to your organization. In your employees' eyes, your leadership is everything you do that effects the organization's objectives and their well-being. Respected leaders concentrate on (U.S. Army, 1983): what they are [be] (such as beliefs and character), what they know (such as job, tasks, and human nature), what they do (such as implementing, motivating, and providing direction). Leadership do not require any managerial position to act as a leader. But for managers to act as a true manager they have to have the leadership by virtue of the position, manager has to provide leadership to their group. A manager has to perform all managerial functions to complete a task like planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. Leadership is the part of this function. Leadership is a general term it is not a title or not related to manager. A person can be a leader by virtue of qualities within that person. For example: leader of a club, class, welfare association, social organization, etc. Therefore, it is true to say that, “All managers are leaders, but all leaders are not managers.” A person becomes a leader on basis of his personal qualities. Manager has got formal rights in an organization because of his status. Rights are not available to a leader. The subordinates are the followers of managers. A leader is required to create cordial relation between people working in an organization. Manager is accountable for self and subordinates behaviour and performance. Leaders have no well defined accountability. A manager’s concern is organizational goals. A leader’s concern is group goals and member’s satisfaction and has to make everyone feel important.
