ANALYSIS OF LEADERS IN INNOVATION ANALYSIS OF LEADERS IN INNOVATION MBA6006 Leading Innovation in Global Organization INTRODUCTION Peter Drucker first introduced the concept of "innovative organization”, it has become a buzzword amongst corporate managers. Particularly in IT, companies strive to create innovative teams (Xing, 2013). Vineet Nayar, who was known as an innovative leader, introduced “innovation” to a declining company. Nayar played a key role as CEO of IT Services and Outsourcing Firm HCL Technologies (HCLT) in 2007. The key role in the practice of innovation leadership is the innovation leader (Gliddon, 2006). It was apparent that Nayar’s innovative and situational leadership skills were an excellent match for the catapulted dismal firm. He was able to transform the company to be recognized by India as the “best employer by Hewitt” (Nayar, 2010). In Nayar’s 2010 article titled “A Maverick CEO Explains How He Persuaded His Team to Leap into the Future” he describes his appointment as President of HCL Technologies and the many challenges he encounted after his appointment. This paper intends to analyze the global factors that influenced Nayar’s need to create an innovative organization, assess Nayar’s use of five discovery skills; the DNA Disruptive Innovators by Dyer, Gregersen & Christensen (2011) and how he used those skills to create an innovative organization. Also it will evaluate opportunities for Nayar to improve his use of the skills that encourage and support innovative organizations.
