Law Enforcement: the Gloomy and Wicked Fruits of Racial Profiling Thesis Statement The negative impacts of racial profiling in our society cannot be denied which is an utter degradation to the humanity at large, reflecting discrimination towards innocent individuals being accused of wrongdoings and illegal activities without any proof rather merely on the basis of the ethnicity they belong to. Introduction As a law enforcement official, there are numerous challenges and obstacles that have to be overcome in order to achieve the state of order in the society. The citizens look up to the law enforcement officials to ensure their safety no matter what. People have blind faith in the law enforcement agency and this call for a unique responsibility that the job of a law enforcement official brings with it. As a law enforcement official, you are given the authority to force the community to follow and obey the laws. If a citizen breaks a law, the officer has the right to arrest the person. Some officers allow this power to go to their head and allow their beliefs to get in the way of them performing their jobs properly. There are some officers that let their racial dilemma’s effect how they see certain ethnic groups in the community. This is what is called racial profiling in law enforcement. Even though some people say that racial profiling reduces crime in certain areas it should be illegal because it is a form of discrimination, it violates human rights, it is unconstitutional and it is ineffective and counter-productive. Discussion Racial profiling is an illegal practice that categorizes an individual’s crimes on the basis of their ethnicity or race. The race of criminals is the scale on which it is decided that whether they should be punished or not. This is a very unfair practice. Racial profiling is a form of discrimination.
