The human species is different than other animal species in that mankind uses language consisting of signs and symbols to express themselves. Over 1000’s of years language has evolved and with it, people and technology have too. Language and human interaction are changing due to the rapid advances in technology and the newest inventions of today. People do still use signs and symbols, but in new and amazing ways. Inventions have given great advantages to many things like the ability to get a message to one another in a very short amount of time. Back in the 1800’s the use of the telegraph gave mankind the ability to get information from town to town or from state to state. With the telegraph there was no use of words. It was in the form of long and short electronic clicks, a lot like mores code. The ability to communicate has greatly increased from the days of the telegraph to the invention of the cell phones of today. Cell phones give us the ability to stay in touch easer today. It is quicker and more effective then the telegraph of the 1800’s. It gave us the ability to call 911 in an emergency no matter what our location. In the 1800’s a person had to physically walk to a local telegraph operator to send a message. Say you were out trail riding on a horse and fell off and were seriously hurt. You have an open compound fracture on your lower right leg and you are bleeding. The loss of blood is causing your blood pressure to drop. In the 1800’s how would you call for help? Today’s invention of the cell phones becomes a great tool.
