Land reclamation has been taking place in several countries and has been successful in solving land supply constraints. However, I only agree to a small extend that land reclamation is the best solution to resolve land supply constraints. Land reclamation is the process of creating new land space from sea or river beds. Land supply constraints refer to the limited amount of land available to support the people and activities at the area. Other methods such as building high density buildings and underground roadways are also solutions to resolve land supply constraints. First and foremost, land reclamation is actually agreed to be one of the possible solution to resolve land supply constraints. Land reclamation refers to the reclaiming of land from shallow seawaters or derelict lands. It could be rather effective since it would allow the land to expand widely and freely, and also enable facilities, buildings and industries to be built on these lands. The Sydney Olympic Park, the primary venue for the 2000 Summer Olympic Games, was built on top an industrial wasteland of landfills. Other than that, reclaimed lands provide habitats for fauna and flora to live, and also, increase the biological stability of that area. In Singapore, locations such as the East Coast Park, was built on reclaimed land and have a man-made beach. Thus, we can see that land reclamation from shallow water or derelict lands not only expand the land, but gives more land space through transforming the widely available seawater to land. Hence, it is effective in overcoming land supply constraints. Building higher density buildings are another way to resolve land supply issues. By building upwards, we are able to build high- rise buildings and skyscrapers within a limited area of land. These high- rise buildings would enable the amount of people working or staying in a particular plot of land
