Lance Armstrong Today I will be talking to you about lance Armstrong winning seven consecutive Tour de France titles. And fighting cancer and coming back to cycling. Also I will be talking to you about his family and personal life. Lance Armstrong was born on September 18th 1971 and has won the Tour de France and record breaking 7 times in a row, from 1999 to 2005.He is the only individual to win the event 7 times, having broken the previous record of 5. He has raced professionally for a total of 14 years including 3 teams. Motorola, Cafidis, and US Postal/discovery channel. On October 2nd 1996 Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with Nonseminomatous (Testicular cancer). Before the cancer was found he had already spread it to his lungs abdomen and brain. Armstrong type of cancer is known as BEP (Bleonigcin etoposide and cisplatin ). However Armstrong decided to undergo an alternative treatment, VIP (Vinblastone, Ifosfamide and cisplatin) in order to avoid the lung toxicity associated with the drug Bleomycin. Armstrong under went surgery on his brain tumor, and an orchiectomy to remove his diseased testicle. Armstrong announced on September 9th 2008 that he will return to pro cycling, with his goal to win 2009 Tour de France. After talking to close family and friends Armstrong decided to return to pro cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden. Armstrong has signed to team Astana to compete in the 2009 Tour de France. Armstrong was born as Lance Edward Gunderson to mother Linda Walling and father Eddy Charles Gunderson. He was named after a Dallas Cowboy receiver Lance Kentzel. His father left his mother when Lance was just 2 years old. His mother later married Terry Keith Armstrong who adopted Lance in 1974. Lance changed his name to Lance Keith Armstrong after his mother married Terry. Lances Mother married and divorced 4 times.
