In other words, there is a human being behind the addiction, one who entered this world just like everyone else, but for some reason, or many reasons, got caught up and trapped in the world of addiction along the way. In this essay, I will visit the general area of drugs and alcohol addiction, including its definition, characteristics and its effects on the addicted persons, their families and many more besides. Also, I will address the specific topic of alcoholism and relate this to my personal experience. So what is this disease that often causes people to be labelled in such a way and frequently results in these human beings being stigmatised and sometimes, even ostracised by society? The Oxford dictionary explains addiction as “the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity” and it defines an addict as” a person who is addicted to a particular substance, typically an illegal drug:” These words only go a little way in describing an illness that affects multitudes of people, directly, and multitudes more indirectly.
Drug Addiction in Adolescence Abstract “Drug addiction is a dependence on an illegal drug or medication” (Merriam-Webster’s, 2000). Once one was addicted, it becomes the focus in that individual's life. The purpose for this paper was to learn and understand the positive and negative outcomes involving drug addiction in the lives of adolescence. In this movie “Losing Isaiah” Khaiah was under the influence of drugs and at the time didn’t realize she was putting her child in danger when she left him. But does that make her an unfit mother? It shouldn’t be about the color of one’s skin or a stereotype. I will agree with the director, Stephen Gyllenhaal that no one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes. PLOT SUMMARY by the Director Two woman of different social, economic and ethnic find themselves in a bitter, emotional custody

Evey’s loss of innocence forced her to undergo many unfortunate situations. At the beginning of the novel she found herself struck by poverty and tries to become a prostitute. While trying to achieve this, she got caught past the curfew and was almost raped but a strange man that called himself “V” saved her. As the novel goes on, V and Evey have a conversation that says: V: I may have killed those fingermen that attacked you the other night too, but I heard no objection to that. Violence can be used for good.
As an introduction to the practical relevance of false memories Steffens & Mecklenbrauker (2007) describe a woman who has been in therapy for many years because “she has trouble trusting men; has panic attacks; has a distant relationship with her father; and suffers from disturbing nightmares” (p 12). However, at some point in the therapy she “recovers” faint memories of early childhood abuse by her father. She is not sure if these are old memories or reconstructed memories of her beliefs and feelings. Yet, the self help literature for victims is quite clear. For instance, “you must believe that your client was sexually abused, even if she sometimes has doubts because no one invents abuse” (Steffens et al, p 12).
My mother use to smoke 5 packs a day then stopped and is now smoking again. She even complains about stress, and she coughs a lot but these are signs of bad health that smoking can cause. Every person I know that smokes cigarettes does it because it helps them distress and little do they know cigarettes only increase the stress and also psychologically distresses. So, should Cigarettes be made illegal? Although I am against cigarettes and it’s bad health problems, I disagree because why ban cigarettes when they shouldn’t have been legal to begin with, there are so many people already addicted, people are going to smoke regardless of what the law is, and the profits of Tobacco Company are high.

I foolishly believed him and ripped up the divorce papers. A year later, he got me hooked on crack, a secret he hid from me over the past year. Over the next two years, after we had paid our bills and bought what we needed for the house and the boys, we would spend the rest of our money on drugs. I knew in my heart that I was not being a good mom, but I could not walk away. It was not until my boys and I were living in a shelter and my now ex husband living in a car that I started to think that I was not on a right path in my life.
