Catastrophe the Streets of Los Angeles Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world where everyone got along? Imagine living in a world without racism and discrimination. On April 29, 1992 in the city of Los Angeles, California one of the worst riots in America broke out. The L.A. Riots broke out after police brutally beat Rodney King after he led police on high speed pursuit. The L.A. Riots were like a time bomb ready to explode because the Black community had been through a lot of injustices.The Rodney King beating was the event that made the bomb explode. The African American community was furious. The Los Angeles Riots started in South Central were minorities mostly African Americans began looting stores and burning business. The riots lasted from April 29, 1992 until May 4, 1992. As a result of riots 53 people died and more than 2,000 people were injured. Material lost was about was about $1 billion dollars and 3,600 fires were set destroying 1,100 buildings. The main cause of the Los Angeles Riots were the injustices that minorities faced by police and the events that were taking place during this time period. The Rodney King pursuit took place in the San Fernando Valley. After Rodney King came to stop police officers tasered, kicked, and beaten with PR-24 batons. The officers made false claims that King was on the drug PCP and that’s why he was being uncooperative with police. Police offeres allege that they had to use excessive force on Rodney King. It was later informed that King did not have PCP in his system. The reason why King led the police department on a high speed pursuit was because he had alcohol in his system. He was scared because he knew was going to get a DUI and he was already on probation.
