The increase in power within the drug cartels makes the future of organized crime seem bleak regarding society, but positive for the OC units themselves. The 1980s brought about many changes in the world of drug trade. The United States government began blocking trades routes from the Caribbean, forcing drug smugglers to take different routes. The new routes ran through the Pacific and Central American isthmus which led smugglers straight to Mexico. Mexicans can smuggle just about anything across the border and upon this realization came the Mexican drug cartel boom.
The pirates enslaved and killed the crews. They threw them in to prisons in Algiers, along with other sailors who had been there for decades. Once Americans found out about the hostages they began to think of ways to solve the problem. Ransoms could not be paid and America’s armed forces were not strong enough. Eventually America’s navy attacked them but failed the first time.
Drug trafficking, in years past, have been very present in countries like Cuba, where drug lords attempted to run the country. Through drug cartels, as mentioned earlier, groups of people try to sell these illegal drugs in attempt to gain money and power. However, these type of cartels are very dangerous as the affect the lives of individuals. More recently, Mexico has been heavily hit by the drug trafficking epidemic, and this has caused an ongoing war that seems almost impossible to end. Living the United States, one can easily forget how great a right it is to practice free speech.
Galan also was becoming became popular for his open criticism and complains for of the drug cartels' violence. He had promised to extradite the drug dealers to the United States and decided to run for the presidential elections of 1987, [Therefore, he became a president candidate for the presidency in 1986,] but his political standards led to his death because the drug dealers murdered him in the same
The Los Angeles Riots of 1992 was an extremely controversial time in American history and also a great stepping stone for civil rights. Rodney King, a parolee under the influence of alcohol, although it had been assumed that he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the arrest, had run red lights and stop signs and was chased down and detained in South Central Los Angeles on March 3rd, 1991 in the Lake View Terrace district. During his arrest, a local resident caught video of a violent beating on Rodney King by four members of the Los Angeles Police Department. This became a rallying cry for activists in and around Los Angeles and other places in the United States. The video that was captured shows four white police officers clubbing and kicking Rodney King repeatedly.
Bianca Neri April 26, 2011 The “Northern Triangle”: A History of Violence and a Future of Urban, Youth Gangs Compounded by Drug Trafficking On December 24, 2005 a group of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members opened fire with their AK-47s killing 28 passengers in the city of Chamalecon, Honduras. The massacre was aimed at random victims and was meant as a protest and a warning against the government's crackdown on gang activities in the country. MS-13 and rival gang 18th Street trace their origins to the Rampart neighborhood of Los Angeles, California but the reach of their brutality has grown to span dozens of countries and has developed into a recognized transregional threat in the Americas. In addition, gangs increasingly are smuggling large quantities of heroin, cocaine, and MDMA (also known as ecstasy) into the United States. Local street gangs in rural, suburban, and urban areas transport drugs within very specific areas, most of what seem to be low socio-economical areas. Some gangs collect millions of dollars per month selling illegal drugs, trafficking weapons, operating prostitutions rings, and selling stolen property. Gangs launder their proceeds by investing in real estate, recording studios, motor cycle shops, and construction companies. The extent of gangs/drugs A proliferation in gangs will also mean a growth in drug and violence in our community’s and threatening society in general.
The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Within two hours, both towers collapsed with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the WTC complex, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon, leading to a partial collapse in its western side.
She cites as an example of anti-immigrant violence the case of Marcelo Lucero, a 37 year old coordinator Ecuadorian immigrant who was stabbed to death on Long Island in 2008. Angel Loja, a friend of Lucero’s who was with him at the time, testified that the gang that assaulted them called them “Mexicans” and “illegals.” Novoa also mentions bullying against immigrants in Charlotte, N.C., where the language used indicates, she says, the “anti-immigrant animus (Tuttle 2)." The previous point clearly indicates that violence can be commited against those considered to be deemed illegal immigrants due to pervaiding beliefs which in itself runs counter to the ideals that America and Americans stand
2. The founding members of MS 13 were children of immigrants fleeing then the war torn country of El Salvador. Where they ended up at first seemed to be the Promised Land but turned out be quite the opposite they would later find out as other established residents and local gangs looked at them as being scum and dirty. As if that weren't bad enough they would get beat up and sometimes worse stabbed. That's when they decided enough is enough and to fight back, and since they were brought up in the Salvadorian civil war as little kids they decided if these guys want violence well show them violence and they took gang warfare to next level by brutally stabbing and shooting opposing gangs.
