Labor and Delivery Nurse In the future I would like to be a labor and delivery nurse. This paper is going to talk about all different aspects of working in the field. I want to be a labor and delivery nurse because both my parents are in the nursing field and I love working and being with newborns so I think it would be a great fit for me. I’d like to learn many things such as, what type of education I need, the cost of going to schooling, and what all is needed to be a labor and delivery nurse. So let’s continue on and find out exactly what I am going to be doing. Schooling is very important, especially when you need to care for 2 or more patients (mother and the newborn). You need to finish high school with either your high school diploma or GED. After high school your are required to have your pre-requisites done before enrolling into nursing school, these classes are higher level mathematics such as statistics and college algebra, psychology, and both chemistry and biology. You’ll also need to take inorganic and organic chemistry, microbiology and English. After completing this you will most likely transfer to a nursing school or stay at the college/university you are at if they provide a nursing program. Once you do this you will have intern training at hospitals, and birthing centers, you’ll need a certain amount of hours in order to complete this section of nursing. Once graduated from nursing school, you’ll havethe chance to take the state certification test which will allow you to work in hospitals and license. Berry 2 Being in the nursing field and specifically being a labor and delivery nurse there are multiple places where you can apply at, and successfully get a job. Being a travelling nurse you are able to travel throughout the country and stay in one place for a short amount of time, then eventually travel somewhere else.
