Dear Concerned Male Organizations,
The absence of male role models and strong family values, along with peer pressure, negative influences in the community, and constant exposure to violence in the media promotes and enables undesirable attitudes and behavior in young men. The K.U.U.M.B.A. program at Morgan State University works to combat the forces working against the bright futures of our young black men .
K.U.U.M.B.A. (Kreating Unity Utilizing Morgan and Baltimore Adolescence) is a tutoring and mentoring program for adolescents between the ages of 11 to 15. It was created in an effort to address the needs of many young people who are ill prepared for life's challenges. The primary goal is to reduce juvenile violence, delinquency and truancy by improving the educational performance and developing the life survival skills of juveniles.
During this semester, we aim to positively influence students in an educational manner by tutoring them and by having positive males on campus come and share knowledge that will have them looking forward to college life. The mentoring program will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Through this program, we hope to instill the idea that personal success is tangible by preparing male youth to over come everyday challenges.
Give a little bit of your time and make an impact today! Our program signs off for community service hours and what better way shall you think to spend it, then to change the life of a young man. We believe that “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education”.
