Kudler Fine Foods Problem Statement Kudler Fine Foods is a gourmet specialty shop established by Kathy Kudler in 1998. Kathy Kudler’s vision was to create a store dedicated to stocking a wide selection of the freshest ingredients for the gourmet cook. Kudler Fine Foods is experiencing challenges related to the normal growing pains of a successful business. After reviewing the strategic plan for KFF, issues regarding Kathy’s business practices were identified. In this paper the subject to address will be the issue regarding the cause and effect the lack of management growth has on the business. Problem Statement “One function of management is to give direction to their organizations, provide leadership, and decide how to use organizational resources to accomplish goals.” (Nickels, McHugh, & McHugh, 2008, p. 182). Although Kathy has a very well thought out organizational chart and has store managers at each location, she has yet to empower her management team to make the decisions necessary for smooth operation of the stores. Kathy maintains control overall operations of the stores, including the ordering process. Kathy’s current management style dictates that she maintains control over these tasks. Current practices prevent Kathy from taking time off. Kudler’s has a small management team that has not been empowered to take over the daily operations or make operational decisions without Kathy’s approval. If Kathy becomes ill or takes time off, important decisions have to wait for her return. The current managers of the different locations have not been empowered to make the necessary decisions when it comes to ordering new merchandise or rotating existing merchandise. Hock, Kunreuther and Guenther (2001) suggests that a solution should be created before a difficult situation arises. End State and Goals Kathy Kudler has time management problems and delegation
