“Kudler Fine Foods is committed to providing our customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines so that your culinary visions can come true.” (Kudler Strategic Plan, 2003, p 3) The mission statement noted above has been the belief and vision of the principal owner and operator since the company’s inception in 1998, Kathy Kulder. In the Kudler Fine Foods Strategic plan the vision is to be the premiere gourmet grocery store for savvy shoppers searching for the finest in food products. Kathy Kudler values quality by buying organic products from local farmers as her social responsibility to the community where the stores are located. Like many businesses Kudler Fine Foods while being a small company headed by Kathy is seeking to expand. Kathy intends to continue providing fine quality foods to the local area, while expanding and opening new stores in the process. The problem is focused on how the company will continue to operate under Kathy and attract investors for future growth. A SWOT analysis was conducted as part of the Kudler Fine Foods Strategic plan that revealed the following weaknesses and threats Kudler Fine Foods faces. The weaknesses that Kudler Fine Foods faces and that caught the eye of Team C members are as listed below: • Kudler Fine Foods deals in perishable foods while keeping quality high this is an expensive and costly expense that reduces the profit margin. • Kudler Fine Foods does offer butcher services which causes high-payroll in specialty shops rather than having pre-packed meats arguably by choice as an incentive to attract customers. • Small management teams with lots of responsibilities is having too much control in the hands of few managers, highly risky and points out exposure the company can have if one of the managers leaves the company. • One location Del Mar is not doing well and there by may
