Mark 1 Nuclear Energy Poop 6 June 2001 What is Nuclear Energy? Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms in a process called fission. At the power plant, the fission process is used to generate heat for producing steam, which is used by a turbine to generate electricity. Although it it is a lot it can be dangerous in a variety of ways.(Westinghouse – What is Nuclear Energy). Nuclear Energy does have many pros and cons. Should we further its use and keep working with or or just not use it anymore? Nuclear Energy can be very good for the production of electricity. The production involves fission which is really good because it is the most energy for the least fuel with the current technology that we have so were are not wasting a lot of materials. Also, less fuel means less waste and all the small amount of waste that is left over is not released into the atmosphere so therefore it can not harm or destroy the environment. Nuclear also involves uranium because fission is produced from the splitting of uranium atoms. That’s really good because uranium is very common to find in the earths crust so it is obviously always available to us most of the time if we will need it for nuclear energy. It is also good economical wise, operating cost is about the same as coal and fuel cost is a much more smaller percentage of the total. It is also a very reliable source for electricity because nuclear power plants have very high capacity factors which is very good. Its also crazy how a energy source can relate to the real world by helping people having a extremely high paying job. When creating a Nuclear power plant, this creates over 3500 jobs for construction workers which is very beneficial. Now obviously if we are using this for power we will not have to rely on or depend on foreign oil or fuel. So our dependence on them is reduced. Uranium can also
