The Kite Runner Novel and Movie Comparison “The Kite Runner” tells a story about a boy named Amir and a Hazara boy named Hassan. Hazaras are discriminated in Afghanistan, so Hassan was always looked down upon. Hassan was raped later, and Amir who witnessed it ran away from the scene, which became his biggest regret in his life. Years later, Amir started his new life in America, but his sins eventually came back to his life again and set him off to his homeland to an adventure of finding Hassan’s son and brings him back to America. Both the novel and movie were exceptional. However, a movie can never fully express the book, as it cannot show every single detail outlined by the novel. The movie did a great job at portraying the culture and people of Afghanistan, making the movie seem very vivid. However, the movie left out a bunch of details since the novel is long, and it do not have enough time to show them all. Sometimes this is also a good choice because some details are not that important, so they can be left out with no impact on the movie. For example, leaving out the part where Hassan's mother Sanaubar returns to find his son was a good choice, for it did not affect the overall progress of the movie. While it would be a touching story to tell, it was not crucial to include it in the movie. Other examples would be excluding the part where Amir spent the night at Farid’s relatives, visit to the Embassy, and Soraya’s sadness due to not able to connect with Sohrab. All these excluded events would not have a great impact on the movie. If I were directing the movie, there will be three more scenes that I would like to add. First scene I would like to add would be Hassan’s hare lips and going through the plastic surgery which Baba had paid for. I chose to add this scene because it would make the movie seems more realistic if Hassan has the
