King Arthur has been a character present in many stories over the past couple of centuries. He makes numerous appearances in some of the most bizarre stories. One of those bizarre stories being the Harry Potter series. At first, it seems as if it would be an extremely strange series to find tie-ins to the Arthurian legends, especially to King Arthur himself. But after looking in to it, there are numerous comparisons to be made between the two characters. Harry Potter’s parents are killed when he is an infant, so he is raised by his aunt and uncle. He learns that he is a wizard on the day he turns thirteen years old. It is during that year that Harry begins his magic training and education at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he meets two people who soon become some of his best friends, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. The two, Hermione and Ron, eventually end up with each other, despite romantic intuitions going on between Harry and Hermione early in the series. While attending Hogwarts, Harry is kept under the watchful eye of the ancient, wise wizard, Dumbledore, who helps Harry find his way through the wizarding world while he is constantly being threatened by the dark lord, Lord Voldemort. In the second book of the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry has to battle a giant Basilisk in the chamber. At the point where it seems he may lose the battle, Dumbledore’s pet phoenix shows up carrying the Hogwart’s sorting hat. Harry reaches into the hat and pulls out the sword of Godric Gryffindor which helps him to defeat the Basilisk. Also, while kept away from the wizarding world during the dreaded summer months, Harry has a constant yearning to be back at his “home” he has at Hogwarts.
