VERB VERB is a word that expresses time while showing an action, a condition, or that something exists. KINDS OF VERB ACTION VERB * Show an action either physical or mental. Ex: 1. Lito imagines great things. 2. Anna is wearing good clothes. 3. Smith catches the ball. TRANSITIVE VERB * A transitive verb always has a noun that receives the action of verbs. Ex: 1. James went to the campus café for a streaming bowl of squid eyeball stew. 2. To escape the midday sun, the cats lie in the shade under our cars. 3. Around fresh ground pepper, Sheryl sneezes with violence. INTRANSITIVE VERB * Verb never has a direct or indirect object. Ex: 1. Sylvia kicked Juan under the table. 2. Joshua wants a smile from leodine, his beautiful but serious lab. Partners 3. Alicia wrote a love poem on a restaurant napkin. LINGKING VERB * Link a subject with its complement. Ex: 1. The linguini taste delicious. 2. Jana is ready to go. 3. Paul became a physician. HELPING VERB * Are used before action or linking verb to convey additional information regarding aspect of possibility. Ex: 1. Teju is going to Florida. 2. Dustin did eat his vegetables. 3. The trip might be dangerous. MOODS OF VERB 1. INDICATE MOOD * Expresses an assertion, denial, or question. Ex: 1. Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas. 2. Ostriches cannot fly. 2. IMPERATIVE MOOD * Expresses command, prohibition, entreaty or advice. Ex: 1. Don’t drown that puppy. 2. Don’t smoke in this building. 3. Be careful. 3. SUBJECTIVE MOOD * Expresses doubt or something contrary to fact. Ex: 1. If I write you, I wouldn’t keep driving on those tires. 2. If he were governor, we’d be in better fiscal shape. 3. If I see him, I will tell him. CHARACTERISTICS OF VERB 1. ACTIVE VOICE * The subject of the sentence performs the action. Ex: 1. Creative children
