If you know the learning style of the student, it is easier to convey the message you are trying to convey.
Being a read/write learner means that you prefer written material, you rather read than listen. If you are a visual learner, you learn better by seeing pictures and diagrams. Some learn best by listening, they are called auditory learners. Others learn by actually touching and working out things, being very hands-on, they are referred to as kinesthetic learners. A good way to teach this to a child who is having problems with synthetic patterns, is to give them books, like Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss. Orally repeating words that sound alike and practicing writing them as we say them. As we do this the child will be able to say that –at makes this sound in a words, which will help them learn new and bigger words. Also a good way to use this type of instruction is to use actual objects and have the child sort them by the way they sound, then writing those words, and then making sentences out of them. Including a basket of items, which engage the five senses, can be handled and are catalyst for discussion might be considered. Reading comprehension does not come easy for every student. It takes a lot of practice, patience, and focus on the student’s part. There is a method called SQ3R, this method help the student break what they are reading down into sections. The work sheet for SQ3R reading is survey, question, read, recite and review. Doing this work sheet allows the student to go back over what he or she read and reviews it for further study.
This development is strongly linked to communication and language development. 3. Communication – this area of development is about learning to communicate with other people and understanding their communications. Talking, reading and writing and also use of gestures are all aexamples of skills that most children learn. Communication and language development are linked to cognitive development because more sophisticated communication involves thinking about what others are trying to convey as well as thinking about what you are trying to express.
