Kids under the age of 12 should be able to ride dirt bikes A kid doesn’t get to ride his dirt bike because he might chew on the battery, or possibly eat the cables and get lead poisoning. To any human that is not mentally challenged should realize that is ridiculous. I have ridden a dirt bike since I was five years old and I have never once thought about chewing on the battery. Chewing on lead, not being able to get parts, and stopping the circulation of the economy are all factors. Many people have heard of babies chewing on a toy and getting lead poisoning, but that law has been pushed too far when people start taking dirt bikes off the market because they have lead based products. According to Sonja Bjelland when a kid rides a dirt bike, he wants to ride it, not chew on the gas tank. I agree that it’s still a toy, but kids are not going to chew on the gas tank, or even the battery cables. This law has been pushed too far and needs revising so kids can ride their dirt bikes again. According to James Hilerbrand kids are going to ride their dirt bikes to their potential and ride them to the extremes. Obviously parts are going to break on the bike, but with this new law of lead banning, newer parts can’t be purchased. Also according to Hilderbrand, once a kid breaks his bike his racing is done with, he won’t be able to ride anymore with a broken bike. Our economy is suffering the way it is, so why slow it down even more by putting parts on the shelves that have already been made and not letting people buy them? That will hurt the owners that much more. The United States economy is almost the worst it’s ever been. Jobs are being lost daily and people are filing bankruptcy more than ever before, so why make the economy even worse?
