Some students think the community service should be for students who want to help and do some good for the community. It should not be a part of the curriculum of colleges. In fact, the mandated community involvement is that such policies engage the students who would not have volunteered on their own mindset or someone who don't even do any school sports or clubs. This appears to be the case in Ontario, where a 2007 study of students found that, on average, they keep the positive attitudes toward the compulsory community service requirement, and that the program had been successful in helping students who otherwise would not have volunteered. Secondly, some students argue that they are so busy for learning; sports and music training that they don’t have time to involve the community service.
Does school really prepare students for adult life? Your going to school everyday, but are you really learning things useful for post-graduation? If someone were to approach you at graduation and ask you to name 13 useful things that you learned throughout your 13 years in school; would you be able to do it? Some people believe that school does not provide students with necessary knowledge. All they teach is a theory which not everybody can practice, while school does not even give basic skills.
Students might want to drop out because they are struggling in school, getting bullied, have a health issue, have personal family problems, or just have a planned out future that doesn't require a high school diploma. Making teens do something they absolutely don't want to do, especially after they are 16, can result in even worse outcomes. “Efforts to raise the age usually come up against the argument that requiring students to stay in school when they no longer want to be there is disruptive to the other students and not fair to the teacher”. Thats a very knowledgeable statement because its true that when teens want to drop out, they want to drop out before they are 18, so they are most likely going to be careless and disrespectful at school. Some teens have personal reasons that are sometimes urgent, and staying in school isn't an option.
In High Schools around the United States scores are getting worse and worse and it’s due to unmotivated teachers who don’t care about the integrity of teaching anymore because it all seems pointless in this current time. You could make a lot more points about High School and its flaws but these ones are the biggest ones that need addressing. From High School to College, a lot of things change. In College you pick your classes, your times, basically everything. You have freedom to do what you like and aren’t held back by counselors and certain start times.
Basically, students get graded on how well they do on the final exam. The problem here is since the students were not tested on the subject material before the final exam, there is a chance that the student will not receive a good grade. Grades can be helpful since they reflect how a student is doing in the course. Therefore, grading system can be beneficial for college students. Moreover, they work hard to achieve a high grade point average (GPA).
There is also an increase with the shortage of teachers because the NCLB Act requires a certain level of teachers all of them must take many test themselves and that determines if they are able to continue to teach. Schools are so adamant to just “pass the test” that they forget the true focus dealing with education and only focus on training students to take a test. Lastly this test labels the students to be all the same. Each student is accountable for one another’s scores no matter who’s a good
Jason Powell EDU 225 December 4, 2011 Professor D. Soclari Ethical Use of Technology in the Classroom Ethical use of technology is probably the most important part of implementing technology in the classroom. “Ethics is the philosophical study of standards of conduct and value” (Ethics, 2010). It is something that teachers normally do not think about concerning internet, since it is done at a district level, but it is a necessity to know how it needs to be done. Districts establish the firewall that protects the students from accessing any questionable material. The last thing that a teacher wants is to have a student pull up inappropriate material while doing an assignment for them.
They also help students develop better people-skills, as well as teach them how to act in a real-life situation, such as a job. Single-sex education does not educate girls and boys any better than coed schools, according to research published by the American Psychological Association analyzing 184 studies of more than 1.6 million students from around the world. Many people believe that separating boys and girls in schools would help them focus better on academics, but studies prove that this is not the case. Also, schools are supposed to prepare students for the “real world”, as well as jobs, and both have both sexes. Researchers also looked at studies that examined coed schools that offered single-sex instruction in certain subjects and found no significant benefits for boys or girls in these cases.
Should Schools Have Dress Code? In 21st century as schools grow and education starts to take on the race to go back in its “Golden Age”, yet the students in public high schools face many problems that are caused only by not having dress code in school. Such as bulling (conflict), computation, and distraction from school. Which makes the students fall behind from the education standers required by some of the most complicated colleges threw out the world. Also according from studies done by New York University of Education Department it shows that United States education system fails to stay up to standers compare to what the Easter world makes for their high Schools students.
Uniform: The Mandate for High Schools “I challenge all our schools to teach character education, to teach good values and good citizenship, If it means that schoolrooms will be more orderly, more discipline; young people will learn to evaluate themselves by what they are on the inside instead of what they’re wearing on the outside then public schools should be able to require students to wear school uniforms.” For over twenty-five years, critics have argued that school uniforms represses individual freedom and are more expensive than normal clothing. Notwithstanding these opinions, it should be mandatory for high school students to wear school uniforms. With the extensive student population in high schools across the United States with learners of diverse backgrounds, there are a mixture of students who represents a high income that can afford to buy fashionable and costly clothing, while low-income students are forced to buy clothing from thrift stores or discount retail stores. Uniforms will therefore help students to be less distracted and focus more on learning than fashion. Uniforms will create equality and help with discipline, which will help to reduce dangerous altercations.
