Aside from the class content I learned that I don’t wait for things to happen I went into this telling my group that under no circumstance could I lead this project but I found myself incapable of waiting for things to evolve on their own, I have more of a leader personality than I thought. How did the interpersonal dynamics affect your participation? If there were conflicts, how were they resolved? I am not shy and I was able to communicated with team members well, we had fun most of the time. Unfortunately we did not have a good dynamic with at least 1 team member which cause a quite a bit of delay and frustration, but we were able to side step this for the most part and push on with the objectives.
b. Bernie Ebbers – I feel that Bernie was one of those individuals who didn’t mean to get caught up in the financial snares of corporate America. It sounds as if he started out with very noble intentions but quickly got wrapped up in living the life of a CEO. Bernie knew what was going on but chose to say nothing. His moral compass was focus so much on self fulfillment that he lost sight of the repercussion of what his actions would mean to those around him. c. Scott Sullivan – The fact that Mr. Sullivan asked Cynthia and team to hold off on reporting their findings and that he would take care of it next quarter leads me to believe he knew what was going on all along.
2. Problem: CanGo’s performance evaluation process appears to be ineffective with no clear criteria that would help the company, managers and the employee’s progress towards the future. Recommendation: CanGo’s current evaluation system, as presented by Warren, is a great start to developing a fair and productive work environment. The system has to be clear and concise so it benefits the employee, manager and ultimately the company. Although CanGo may have a large number of high performing employees, they need to

Nordstrom does not offer extensive training programs to its customers. Employees are paid on a commission basis, they are surrounded by a very competitive environment and it is ingrained in them that customer satisfaction is key. Employees needing to train new employees may not emphasize to the new employee why the need for customer satisfaction is so important. Also, because of the competitive environment, it may cause the employee to not train the new employee appropriately because of threat to their sales, which could in turn cause a misconception of their family environment. There is no training program for them that state any reasons why the culture of the company relies on customer satisfaction.
Halliday confirms this realization as Wade is being awarded, “I created the OASIS because I never felt at home in the real world. I didn’t know how to connect with the people there…Right up until I knew it was ending. Because reality is real” (364). The only reason why Wade wanted to win before was to gain power and money so he could escape the harsh reality many poor people faced. He learned from Art3mis, Shoto, Aech, Og, and Daito that life is more important than refuge from harsh reality.
Although he gave his employees great benefits, he expected extremely hard work and dedication from them. He didn’t take criticism from others well and believed that his most significant adviser should be himself. Even when Edsel was named president of the company, internally, Henry refused to lose control and reportedly never truly stepped down. By depending only on himself, as time went on he failed to recognize the changing needs and wants of the consumers. The Model T became outdated in the 1920’s.
Katie Pool Period 3 3/4/15 Essay prompt 10 Vaclav Havel once said, “Work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed.” Work for something because it means something to you and you believe in it not just because it will make a profit, you will never truly succeed if you do that. If you work without drive or passion it will show, how can someone be expected to do their job well if they do not care about it or if they don’t think it is “good”. Philosopher, writer, and mechanic Matthew B. Crawford gave up his job at a think tank to pursue his passion of repairing motorcycles. He gave up a well-paid, intellectual job for a blue-collar equally intellectual job because he believed it was “good” or “real” work. Most people want to be is happy and how can that
1. Ayn Rand’s quote is one that comes from life and not from theory or hopes. Rand clearly stresses that men work mainly for their own gain. It is true, that a man’s surplus can motivate him to create progress. However, it very rarely comes with the society in mind.
As Americans, with determination, we try to obtain our goals beating any obstacle that tries to stop us. Usually fulfilling the American dream is taking the opportunities that are given to us and transforming them into opportunities that make us wealthy. Unfortunately, very few serve as models to achieving the American dream.
