KENYA DIARY From 20th June to 26th July’ 2010 Scriblings by Muraleedharan at Kenya. Nisha is my elder daughter. With husband Binu & daughter Saanya, she is in Kenya for the last 10 years. I happened to visit them along with my wife in June .. The sriblings below are on how the days are spent here. Its purely personal , It may give an overview of life here in general and some idea of Kenya as a commoner sees it. Read on…. Day1. The Jet lite touched down at Chatrapati Sivaji Terminus exactly at 06.15 pm. The Nagpur –Mumbai flight was in time .When the flight left at 5 pm it was not raining. But the sky was down cast. It was so throughout the road journey from Bhilai. Sunday, 20th of June. Pathak’s Tata Indigo came at 9.00 am itself , Unni was the driver. The Kenyan Airways flight is at 3.00am, next day . Bhilai-Mumbai booking was on Gitanjali, reaching Mumbai at 9.30pm . It was logical . But trains are no more reliable in Howrah- Mumbai trunk route , thanks to Maoists. Raipur- Mumbai flight reaches at noon , 12 hrs. waiting at Mumbai will be too long. So this Nagpur route. Lachu’s ( my younger daughter) presence at home made a difference, a feeling of wanted . Leaving by 9.15 am proved logical. Had leisure lunch on way & reached Nagpur air port in time. Luggage was 20 kg extra . For domestic, limit is 20 kg , where as its 40 kg for international. Paying Rs.1128 /- for 10 kg ( air line gave a concession of 10 kg ) didn’t pinch somehow! For travel to African continent Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory. South Africa is an exception. Its done at port health centers . Cochin, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Vizag. , Hyderabad. Not sure of other places. Could be at state capitals. And not administered every day. You need a batch of 20 for this vaccine, they say once opened the syrup cannot be preserved. We had it at Vigaz. Once done ,
